About the Author
“Please read to me,” were the first words spoken by Vicki.
OK, slight exaggeration. But, Vicki’s mom and dad recall their little girl had a great love of stories. She wrote, illustrated, and “self-published” her first book at age eight. The main character was a clown. Didn’t get too far on the best-seller’s list though.
But seriously, in college when Vicki presented her thesis paper entitled “The Slave Revolt of Saint Dominique: An Exploratory Analysis of Vodun’s Contribution to the Inception, Motivation, and Cohesion of the Revolution,” her professor proclaimed, “You could be published!”
And the dream to someday write a book was born.
Years later, she would marry, and the book took a backseat to the dream of becoming a mother. At that time, she had no idea how these dreams would merge.

She and Ed were married in 1992 and they used birth control for the first year and a half of their marriage. They conceived a child in 1995, but the pregnancy sadly resulted in miscarriage. Both Vicki and Ed are strong Christian believers who have dealt with doubts, depression, and feeling abandoned by the Lord. Through the medical procedures, surgeries, anger, disappointment, and depression, Vicki wrote of her disillusionment and sought answers from the Bible. She searched God's Word for comfort, contentment, and for some sense to be made out of this hardship. She found what was needed and has written life lessons to encourage others on the same journey. And so, a manuscript for her book emerged.
So cool how God shapes a dream. Taking a painful, horrible time in Vicki’s life and molding it to create a book. Weird how it took the death of one dream (motherhood) to bring the birth of another dream (published book).
Ed and Vicki made the decision to remain childfree. Not an easy decision by any means. They seriously prayed about and considered adoption. Came very close indeed on a short-term mission trip to Nicaragua. But, adoption is a calling from the Lord. And He has called them to a different path.
Vicki’s an animated speaker. She’ll have you laughing and crying, and you’ll leave feeling a bit of your burden’s been lifted.
She works at her church, is a freelance writer, and still loves books. Although, she doesn’t ask anyone to read to her these days.
She loves spending time with her handsome husband and her diva dog. And word has it, she recently was caught T.P.-ing with her fun-loving 13-year-old niece. But, that might be just an urban legend.
Vicki’s heart goes out to her fellow strugglers of infertility. Her mission and passion is to comfort and support in any way she can. She leads an infertility support group at her church called Still Waters.
Oh, and one published book definitely isn’t enough. She’s mulling over her next book, a few topics are swirling around in her head and getting organized on paper. Stay tuned.
